Cat Ba Fishing Village Festival – The Cultural Traditional Event In Cat Ba Island
Celebrated on April 1 annually, the Cat Ba Fishing Village Festival in Vietnam is organized to commemorate the day Uncle Ho took a visit to this village in 1959. Nowadays, the organization of this event has more meanings as it represents the beginning of the growing fishing season for the fishermen and the opening time of the tourism season in Cat Ba.
There are many exciting activities and appealing competitions during this festive occasion, including windsurfing, swimming, and basket boat racing. Two extraordinary games of this event are Tug of Struggle and Dragon Dance. In Tug of Struggle, a hold of the game will divide competitors into two groups, and the task of members in each group is to pull the opponent’s boat to the opposite side.
Furthermore, an indispensable activity of that great festival is dragon boat racing on the sea. In this competition, the Cat Ba host team will compete with teams from all over the country. Each boat will hold between 22 and 26 members. Racing along 1km of the sea, boats have to finish 3 or 4 laps. The fastest boat of the competition will win and bring pride and honor to the team.
The new thing in the traditional Cat Ba Fishing Village Festival is the added competition between athletics for women on the 4000 m distance and one between athletics for men on the 6000 m distance.
The Fishing Village Festival in Cat Ba Island has a wide range of sports activities and competitions.
