It is not surprising when the Hanoi Old Quarter nowadays has attracted a lot of locals and tourists to come, making this place become a great attraction to learn about the local color and life.

Hanoi Old Quarter houses not only boutiques and special souvenirs with affordable prices but also valuable breathtaking paintings, sculptures, and photographs by famous artists from many parts of the country. 1. Hang Gai Street (Phố Hàng Gai)

Hang Gai Street with 300-meter length is also known as the Silk Street because it is packed with shops and stores selling high-quality silk material, home furnishings, and traditional Vietnamese apparel. On this street, you can find many fashion boutiques and tailor shops where you can ask the tailor to make your personal dresses and suits based on your measurement.

The majority of stores on Hang Gai Street allow payment via credit card. If you want to purchase the best quality silk, you should go to a reliable store and avoid purchase from the market street traders.

Besides tailor shops and boutiques, Hang Gai Street also features many souvenir shops that sell lamps, notebooks, postcards and prominent art galleries such as Green Palm Gallery and Thang Long Art Gallery.

2. Dong Xuan Market (Chợ Đồng Xuân)

Situated on the north of the Hanoi Old Quarter, Dong Xuan Market that is a Soviet-style building is known as the largest market in Hanoi. Featuring four floors, Dong Xuan Market has a huge selection of products such as souvenirs, fresh goods, clothing, accessories, household and electronic appliances that are sold at affordable prices.

On the ground floor, you can find the local shops for meat, seafood, and vegetables while the back section has a variety of pets (fish, dogs, and cats) and fresh flowers imported from across Vietnam. Going to the upper levels, you can see plenty of shops for souvenirs that sell fabrics, tee shirt, handbags, school uniforms, handicrafts, etc.

Furthermore, you can also eat in a large dining area full of food vendors that sell Vietnamese special dishes and coffee at the super cheap price. If you have a chance to visit Dong Xuan Market, you should taste the recommended dishes such as fried frog, Tiet Canh, Banh Cuon, and Bun Cha.

3. Hanoi Weekend Night Market

Talking about the shopping in Hanoi Old Quarter, Vietnam, you should mention Hanoi Weekend Night Market. It is a busy market that opens every Friday, Saturday and Sunday evening. Featuring many local food vendors and roadside stalls, Hanoi Weekend Night Market attracts huge crowds of tourists and locals.

In this market, you can find plenty of inexpensive T-shirts, accessories, handicrafts, sunglasses shoes and souvenirs. It is great to enjoy the lively and busy environment there and ask for bargaining. With the prices of VND 15,000, you can find many delicious dishes such as La Vong (Lã Vọng) grilled fish, Bun Thang (Bún Thang) (vermicelli soup with fried egg, shredded chicken, and pork), Banh Mi (Bánh Mì), Pho (Phở), and Bun Cha (Bún Chả) (noodles with grilled pork).

Visiting Hanoi Weekend Night Market, you can enjoy the cultural performances in which locals wearing traditional costumes play classic tunes or traditional music.

4. Hang Bac Street (Phố Hàng Bạc)

Like the name’s meaning, Hang Bac Street (“bac” literally means silver in Vietnamese) has had many outlets of jewelers like necklaces, rings, and a variety of inexpensive fashion item for hundreds of years. It is great for you to wander along the street and go to the shops of handicrafts, jewelers and propaganda poster.

5. Khaisilk Boutique Hanoi

As one of Vietnam’s largest silk retailers, Khaisilk Boutique Hanoi has a wide variety of high-quality silk, accessories and fashionable tailor-made clothing. Coming to this shop, you can buy a traditional Vietnamese dress or ask the tailor to design your favorite dress and suit. Furthermore, you can also find plenty of small pieces that often go with fashionable clothes such as bags, silk ties, belts, and shoes. For the unique designed styles, good quality and high reliability, it is not surprising when Khaisilk Boutique gains more and more popularity and it has some branches in Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City (Hồ Chí Minh), and Da Nang (Đà Nẵng).

Established in 1996, Thang Long Art Gallery is a family- run shopping spot for beautiful and breathing paintings of talented artists in Vietnam. This gallery is located within a two-storey building and displays an impressive collection of propaganda posters that depict the peace, war, agriculture, industry and Vietnamese culture. Most paintings were made in the 1970s.

9. Ajisai Hanoi

If you are tourists who come to Hanoi for visiting and exploring, Ajisai is a wonderful place for shopping in Hanoi Old Quarter, Vietnam you should not miss. This is because this shop has a wide selection of beautiful and special local souvenirs you can buy as ideal gifts for your friends and family back home. Set within a three-store building, this famous retail outlet sells standout items such as handwoven wallets, silk-embroidered bags, and Nguyen ceramic products. Furthermore, at Ajisai Hanoi, you can also purchase local foodstuffs like wine, cashew nut cookies, Vietnamese tea and coffee, fruit jams and dried seeds.

10. Hang Buom (Hàng Buồm)

Hang Buom, an ancient street of Hanoi, is crowded every weekend and attracted tourists when they visit Hanoi. Hang Buom has Food Street Goods Snails where you can find many kinds of local foods made in different styles, mainly snacks. Besides Hanoi special foods, you can taste the cuisine of many countries in the world. Wandering along food street, you can see 40 different stalls that open from 7:30 pm to 12 am every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.

Aside from food, Hang Buom also sells sails as its most common item. Visiting this place, you can see a wide array of sails made of different materials. People also come here to buy various products such as pumpkin seeds, candy, roasted meat, etc.

11. Thuoc Bac Street (Phố Thuốc Bắc)

“Thuoc Bac” means literally the herbal medicine from the North; therefore, as its name’s meaning, Thuoc Bac Street sells a wide array of medicinal herbs. In the old time, Thuoc Bac Street only has domestic and handicraft merchandises. Today, because of the modernization and the growth of tourism, you can see various products sold at stalls and shops lining along the street.

12. Cau Go Street (Phố Cầu Gỗ)

Among other streets and shopping spots in the Hanoi Old Quarter, Cau Go Street can be reached easily thanks to the extremely convenient position. In the past, Cau Go street was packed with small and cheap-priced eateries serving students across Vietnam studying in Hanoi. Today, it is a popular shopping street selling oils and paints. But besides these typical goods, you can buy many things, namely sleepwear, shoes, and flowers.
